CU, GS25 Expand Market Share to 68.9% as Smaller Rivals Lose Ground in South Korea

According to Nice Credit Rating, South Korea's convenience store market is becoming increasingly concentrated, with market leaders CU and GS25 gaining ground at the expense of smaller competitors. From 2024 to 2025, the combined market share of CU and GS25 rose 2.2 percentage points to 68.9%, while SevenEleven and Emart24 saw their combined share drop by the same margin to 31.1%. SevenEleven's store count fell by 1,112 locations to 11,040, while Emart24 declined by 620 stores to 5,510. In response, Nice Credit Rating downgraded Korea Seven's (operator of SevenEleven) credit outlook from stable to negative, citing reduced store count, lower sales from underperforming locations, and weakened financial stability.
