According to Bloomberg, Chinese AI startup DeepSeek has paused its second funding round in recent days following the leak of internal comments attributed to founder Liang Wenfeng regarding U.S.-China AI competition. Sources revealed the company has notified potential investors that planned investment agreements will not proceed as scheduled. Liang is reportedly unhappy with the circulation of his remarks, originally made during Series A fundraising discussions. DeepSeek completed its first funding round in June, raising $7 billion from investors including Tencent and Contemporary Amperex Technology. The company may restart the second round later, which originally targeted raising at least 100 million yuan.
