According to BlockBeats, on May 14, Senators Van Hollen and Cynthia Lummis debated a proposed amendment to add DeFi anti-money laundering provisions to the CLARITY Act. Van Hollen supported the amendment, arguing that DeFi tool developers knowingly facilitate money laundering and sanctions evasion and should face legal consequences. Lummis opposed it, stating existing U.S. law already criminalizes such conduct under 18 USC Sections 1956 and 1957, making the additional provision unnecessary. The amendment was rejected 13-11.
