DOJ Task Force Freezes $3.8 Million in Illicit Crypto With Help From Coinbase, SpaceX, Meta

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the Disruption Week task force froze $3.8 million in stolen cryptocurrency on May 18-21 with support from private sector firms including Coinbase, SpaceX, Meta, Apple, Google, and Microsoft. The collaboration involved coordination with law enforcement agencies in the U.S. and abroad to target organized crime entities in Southeast Asia.

The initiative disrupted more than 1.4 million social media and email accounts used for fraudulent activity and led to the identification and arrest of seven individuals in Thailand. Private sector firms voluntarily interrupted access to millions of scam accounts and worked with government agencies to freeze the funds, according to FBI Director Kash Patel.
