Dragonfly Partner Haseeb Rejects DeFi 'Hacker Apocalypse' as 2026 Theft Rate Hits $1.89B Annualized

According to Dragonfly partner Haseeb, DeFi theft rates in 2026 do not support predictions of a major security crisis. Haseeb cited on-chain data showing annualized DeFi losses of $1.89 billion for 2026, with year-to-date cumulative theft at $986 million, both below 2025 levels and within historical ranges.

Haseeb noted that while attack frequency has increased, average theft amounts per incident have declined. Attackers are primarily targeting smaller protocols and abandoned projects, while major protocols have strengthened defenses, resulting in no material deterioration in overall fund security.
