ECB Likely to Hold Rates Unchanged This Week While Maintaining Restrictive Bias

According to Nuveen analyst Laura Cooper, the European Central Bank is likely to hold interest rates unchanged at its meeting this week while maintaining a restrictive bias, following its rate increase in June. Cooper cited moderating inflation, with purchasing managers' pricing sub-indices showing little sign of acceleration, and producer price data confirming easing upstream cost pressures as rationale for the pause. However, she noted that renewed commodity supply disruptions could reignite energy price pressures and prompt the ECB to keep further tightening options open.
