EU Lawmakers Back Temporary 'Chat Control' Rules Allowing Content Scanning

According to PANews, EU legislators backed a temporary set of Chat Control rules on July 9, allowing major internet platforms to continue scanning user communications for child abuse material while maintaining existing content review and reporting mechanisms. Encrypted messaging applications are currently exempt from the regulations, pending approval by member state governments.
