According to Estonian Defense Minister Hann Pevkur, European defense equipment prices have surged 50% or more over the past two years as NATO allies significantly increase military spending. “Prices are rising,” Pevkur said, adding he frequently discusses procurement challenges with Estonian military officials. He noted a specific example: equipment purchased two years ago now costs 50% to 60% more when reordered.
The price surge reflects a structural market challenge: governments face equipment shortages, but European defense contractors hesitate to expand production capacity without formal long-term government procurement contracts.
