Europe's major stock indices closed with mixed performance on July 16. Germany's DAX 30 index fell 0.58% to 24,853.61 points, while France's index declined 0.32% and Italy's benchmark retreated 0.44%.

Italy's banking index bucked the trend, rising 0.56%. The UK's FTSE index edged higher, gaining 0.29% at the close.
