Florida Sues OpenAI and Sam Altman Over ChatGPT Safety Misrepresentations

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman on Monday, June 1, alleging the company misled consumers about ChatGPT's safety while exposing children to harm. The state claims ChatGPT contributes to self-harm, violence, addiction, and misinformation, citing cases involving a Florida State University shooter consulting the chatbot about firearms and campus locations. Florida is seeking damages, injunctive relief, and personal liability against Altman.
