Foreign Investors Resume Semiconductor Buying as Samsung and SK Hynix Drop 25-34% from June Peaks

According to Edaily, on July 23, foreign investors resumed net purchases of South Korean semiconductor stocks, buying Samsung Electronics for 1.097 trillion won and SK Hynix for 468.9 billion won between July 8-23. These two stocks accounted for 26.2% of foreign investors' total net purchases of 5.983 trillion won during the same period. The buying follows a sharp pullback from June highs—Samsung Electronics fell 25.5% from 362,500 won and SK Hynix dropped 34.3% from 2,919,000 won—as foreign investors sought entry points amid stabilizing exchange rates. Separately, Alphabet's upwardly revised capital expenditure guidance to 195-205 billion dollars signaled sustained AI infrastructure investment demand, easing concerns about semiconductor demand peaking and potentially supporting continued foreign buying in Korean chip stocks.
