GitLab Cuts Jobs, Trims Management to Fund AI Agents Push

According to a May 12 memo from CEO Bill Staples, GitLab announced it will cut jobs, trim management layers, and reduce the number of countries it operates in as it shifts spending toward AI agents. The software development tools company will reorganize its research and development teams to use AI agents for automating reviews, approvals, and handoffs. The company has not yet determined how many roles will be affected and plans to provide details on June 2 when reporting quarterly earnings. GitLab reaffirmed its fiscal 2027 guidance, though shares fell more than 8% in after-hours trading.
