Google Develops Frozen v2 Chip for Gemini, Boasting 6-10x Efficiency Gain; Alphabet Shares Rise 3%

According to The Information, Google is developing a server chip codenamed Frozen v2 designed specifically to run Gemini faster and cheaper by hardwiring part of the AI model's architecture directly into the silicon. Engineers project a six to ten times improvement in efficiency compared to current Tensor Processing Units, with a 2028 deployment target. Alphabet shares climbed roughly 3% on Monday (July 21) following the report, touching $356 intraday, ahead of the company's Q2 2026 earnings announcement on Wednesday, July 22.
