Google Restricts Gemini Computing Supply to Meta, Forcing $600B Data Center Investment by 2028

According to the Financial Times on Sunday, Google informed Meta around March 2026 that it could not provide the full allocation of Gemini computing power Meta requested, disrupting and delaying multiple internal AI projects. The computing constraints have also prompted Meta to ask employees to reduce AI token usage to improve efficiency.

To reduce reliance on external computing resources, Meta is aggressively building its own infrastructure. The company plans to invest $600 billion in U.S. data centers by 2028 to meet its training and inference requirements.
