Hanwha Selected for U.S. Army Wheeled Howitzer Modernization Project, Decision Expected This Month

According to Yonhap Infomax, Hanwha Aerospace has selected its K9MH—the wheeled variant of the world's leading K-9 self-propelled gun—as its contender for the U.S. Army's Tracked and Wheeled Self-Propelled Howitzer (MPWH) modernization project (MTC). The U.S. Army is expected to announce the winning bidder as early as this month, according to industry sources on July 10. The MTC project involves procurement of over 400 units of 155mm wheeled howitzers, with a total value of approximately 10 trillion Korean won. Hanwha emphasizes the K9MH's cost advantage, estimated at 20–80% lower than competing models, along with proven reliability and timely delivery capability. The company faces competition from Germany's Rheinmetall, Israel's Elbit, and Britain's BAE Systems.
