According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, on May 14, drone activity surged near three Ukrainian nuclear facilities—South Ukraine, Chornobyl, and Rivne nuclear power plants. Over 160 unmanned aircraft were recorded flying in the areas on May 13-14 alone, prompting IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi to express serious concern. Grossi reiterated calls for all parties to exercise maximum restraint and ensure nuclear safety during the conflict to prevent nuclear accidents. The IAEA is continuing coordination with Russian and Ukrainian authorities to implement a temporary local ceasefire near Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant to enable essential repairs to external power infrastructure.
