IATA Chief Warns More Airlines Will Fail Amid Rising Fuel Costs

According to IATA chief Willie Walsh, rising aviation fuel prices will lead to more airline bankruptcies and industry consolidation in the coming period. Walsh noted that regulatory obstacles make a merger between United Airlines and American Airlines unlikely. He added that once Middle East tensions ease, carriers and hubs in the Gulf region will recover market share.
