Iran Rejects Oman Joint Management of Hormuz Strait, Demands Shipping Routes Through Iranian Waters on July 29

According to Reuters, on July 29, Iran rejected Oman's proposal for joint management of shipping through the Hormuz Strait and demanded that vessels transiting the waterway must pass through Iranian territorial waters. A senior Iranian official stated that one inbound shipping lane must completely traverse Iranian waters, while the outbound lane must partially pass through Iran's waters. Iran insists it must control the full inbound transit route and part of the outbound route, with Oman's authority limited to its proportional share, rejecting any joint management framework based on equal stakes.
