Japanese Investors Sell $296M in U.S. Treasuries in Q1 2026, Highest Since 2022

According to Japan's international balance of payments data released Wednesday, Japanese investors dumped 4.67 trillion yen ($296 million) of U.S. government and agency bonds in the three months through March 31, marking the highest quarterly outflow since Q2 2022. The surge in selling comes as oil price spikes sparked a sharp reversal in market expectations for Federal Reserve policy.
