Japan's Nagasaki Prefectural Assembly Passes Resolution Backing Three Non-Nuclear Principles on July 9

According to Kyodo News, Japan's Nagasaki Prefectural Assembly passed a written opinion on July 9, calling on the government to uphold the Three Non-Nuclear Principles in response to recent discussions within Japan's ruling coalition about potential revisions to the policy.

The opinion stated that as the only nation to have experienced nuclear weapons attacks, Japan bears responsibility to alert the world to nuclear threats, and that the Three Non-Nuclear Principles—which prohibit possession, production, and introduction of nuclear weapons—form the foundation for regional stability and must be faithfully upheld.
