Korean Retail Investors Flock to 3x Leverage ETFs as Regulator Targets Single-Stock Products

TQQQ5.77%
Following South Korea's financial regulator announcement to tighten rules on single-stock leveraged ETFs, retail investors shifted to overseas index and sector-based 3x leveraged products exempt from the new restrictions. SOXL, tracking the semiconductor index at 3x leverage, surged to the top spot in net purchases of overseas stocks by individual investors after the announcement, while TQQQ, following the Nasdaq-100 index at 3x leverage, climbed to second place. Both ETFs had ranked outside the top 50 before the regulatory move. Financial analysts flagged a 'balloon effect,' with restricted investment demand migrating to unregulated alternative products rather than declining overall.
