According to The Fact, South Korea's Kosdaq index fell 23.27% over the past month as of July 16, marking the steepest decline among major global indices. The benchmark, which stood at 1,000.93 on June 18, slid below 800 points in recent days, hitting a one-year low of 749.76 on July 14.
The sell-off was driven by a massive capital shift to semiconductor mega-cap stocks. Single-stock leveraged exchange-traded funds (ETFs) tracking Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix attracted 13.41 trillion Korean won in net inflows since their May 27 launch through July 16, with retail investors concentrating bets on these products rather than Kosdaq-listed companies.
