KOSPI Plunges 28.5% in Past Month to 6,516 Points; V-Shaped Recovery Unlikely

According to Eugenecorp Securities researcher Huh Jae-hwan, South Korea's KOSPI index plunged 28.5% from June 21's intraday peak of 9,114 points to 6,516 points on July 20, marking its largest decline since the 2008 financial crisis. SK Hynix shares fell 39.6% from their peak. Huh expects stock prices to take approximately one month to recover, but a V-shaped rebound similar to the COVID-19 pandemic recovery appears unlikely given the Bank of Korea's strong prospects for further rate hikes and deteriorating cash flow among global big tech companies.
