Macquarie Data Centres to Buy Sydney Site for $167M, Plans 200MW Campus by Late 2029

According to Macquarie Data Centres, on July 16 the company exercised an option to purchase a 34,200-square-meter site in Sydney's Macquarie Park for A$240 million (US$167 million). The acquisition is expected to complete within weeks, with initial construction targeted for late 2029, subject to planning and regulatory approvals.

Macquarie plans to develop an engineering and technology campus alongside a 200-megawatt data-center facility, expanding its existing Sydney footprint of 67MW IT load. The campus will partner with Macquarie University to provide students and researchers access to data-center, cybersecurity, AI, and cloud technologies. The facility will employ advanced air-cooling and closed-loop systems to reduce operational water consumption.
