Maersk Cuts Week-30 Europe Rates to $4,800 per Container Amid Renewed Geopolitical Tensions

According to a Haihui Futures report on July 9, container shipping rates on the Europe-China route showed signs of recovery following renewed U.S.-Iran tensions, which eased market pessimism over the full reopening of the Suez Canal. Maersk's week-30 booking shows Shanghai-to-European ports (excluding Hamburg) priced at $4,800 per 40-foot container, down $700 week-on-week, while Hamburg rates stand at $4,900. The geopolitical escalation shifted market focus from "Suez reopening impact" back to fundamental pricing, with trading activity now centered on rate trajectory post-peak.
