Malaysia's MCMC Issues Statutory Demand to TikTok Over AI-Generated Monarchy Posts

According to Reuters, on May 21, Malaysia's Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) issued a statutory demand to TikTok over AI-generated and altered images related to the country's monarchy that the platform failed to moderate quickly enough. The regulator said the content, including videos and images linked to an account claiming ties to Sultan Ibrahim, was false, menacing, and insulting. The order requires TikTok to take immediate action to strengthen moderation, prevent further spread of violative content, and provide a formal explanation of its alleged moderation failures.
