According to Beating, Meta laid off 8,000 employees on May 20, 2026, with termination emails sent at 4 a.m., according to multiple employee disclosures. The layoffs included high-performing engineers with no performance improvement plans. The company has now installed monitoring software on remaining employees' computers to track their work activities for AI training purposes, according to internal employee Marco.
