According to Beating, Meta plans to cut approximately 8,000 employees on May 20. Despite management assurances that layoffs won’t consider AI proficiency, the company deployed an internal AI leaderboard displaying token consumption and interaction duration, sparking anxiety among staff. Facing the ranking pressure, some employees have begun sending meaningless queries to internal chatbots to accumulate interaction data. The concern has extended to daily operations, with staff manually disabling the default ‘AI note-taking’ feature in video meetings to discuss layoff rumors safely, amid reports that the company recently introduced keystroke logging software.
