Meta to Deploy Millions of AWS Graviton Chips for AI Workloads

Gate News message, April 25 — Amazon announced on April 24 that Meta will use millions of AWS Graviton chips for AI workloads, marking a significant customer win for AWS’s in-house ARM-based processors. The chips will be used for AI inference and general computing rather than model training.

The deal spans multiple years and is worth billions of dollars, with Meta planning to deploy tens of millions of Graviton5 processor cores. The announcement comes after Meta’s US$10 billion six-year cloud partnership with Google Cloud in August 2025, though the company continues to maintain relationships with AWS and Microsoft Azure.

The move reflects broader industry shifts, as Amazon expands its custom AI chip business. In April, Anthropic committed to spending US$100 billion over 10 years on AWS workloads focused on custom chips, prompting Amazon to invest an additional US$5 billion in the startup.
