According to Jin10, Mexico's government agreed on May 25 to host Iran's national football team during the 2026 World Cup after the United States declined to accommodate the squad. Iran coach Mehdi Taj announced that despite Iran's three group-stage matches being held in the United States, the team will relocate from Arizona to Tijuana, Mexico, near the U.S. border. Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum stated: "We have no reason to refuse their stay in Mexico."
