Microsoft Faces Long-Term AI Challenge Beyond Earnings, Gene Munster Warns

MSFT1.11%

Ahead of Microsoft's (MSFT) quarterly earnings report on Wednesday, Gene Munster of Deepwater Asset Management said investors should focus on longer-term challenges posed by artificial intelligence rather than earnings results. According to X posts, Munster warned that Microsoft's "battle with the bots is just beginning" and the company needs to restructure its business model from per-seat to usage-based pricing. He cautioned that AI agents could reduce the importance of traditional software interfaces, potentially threatening Microsoft's product entrenchment despite Azure's strong near-term outlook.

Munster noted that business model changes create uncertainty and could pressure the stock's valuation multiple. MSFT shares have declined nearly 19% year-to-date.
