According to Korea Economic Daily on July 24, Mirae Asset has secured 97.15% stake in cryptocurrency exchange Upbit by acquiring the remaining shares for approximately 141.4 billion Korean won, making it the largest shareholder. The group rebranded Upbit to Digital X and plans to integrate tokenized real-world assets, security tokens, and stablecoins into a unified digital asset ecosystem.

On the same day, Korea Investment Securities and OKX Ventures each invested 80 billion Korean won to acquire approximately 20% stake in CoinOne, becoming co-third largest shareholders. Separately, Hana Investment Securities increased its stake in Dunamu to 9.84% (up from 5.94%) after acquiring an additional 597.8 billion Korean won worth of shares in June, while Samsung Securities, Samsung SDS, and Samsung Card collectively acquired Kakao-held Dunamu shares totaling 612.8 billion Korean won in May. These investments come ahead of South Korea's security token law implementation scheduled for February 2026, which will permit distributed ledger-based securities accounts and secondary trading of investment contract securities.
