Netanyahu Seeks to Phase Out U.S. Military Aid to Israel Over Next Decade

According to Israeli PM Netanyahu on May 11, he seeks to phase out U.S. military aid to Israel over the next decade, aiming to shift from an aid-based relationship to a partnership model. “I hope to gradually reduce American support to zero,” Netanyahu said, adding that Israel has “matured” and should move beyond military assistance.

The U.S. currently provides Israel with $3.8 billion in annual military aid under a ten-year agreement negotiated during the Obama administration, which runs through 2028. According to the U.S. Congressional Research Service, Israel is the largest cumulative recipient of U.S. foreign aid since World War II, having received over $174 billion in total funding.
