According to The Sunday Times, on July 5, 2026, Reform UK leader Nigel Farage was referred to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards for failing to disclose financial support and benefits in kind from George Cottrell, a convicted crypto gambling entrepreneur.
Leaked documents revealed Cottrell secretly funded parts of Farage's operations, including recruitment and payment of three social media staff members, private security, travel expenses, and use of a luxury townhouse near Buckingham Palace. Cottrell, who served eight months in U.S. federal prison in 2017 after pleading guilty to wire fraud, reportedly assisted Farage before the latter's election to Parliament. Reform UK rejected the allegations, stating the arrangements predated Farage's parliamentary tenure and violated no rules. The inquiry comes amid parallel scrutiny over a £5 million donation from Thailand-based crypto investor Christopher Harborne.
