According to Beating, Nous Research’s open-source Hermes Agent framework introduced a Kanban multi-agent collaboration system in v0.12.0. The system allows agents to operate as independent processes, autonomously claiming and executing tasks from a shared task board in parallel, replacing traditional in-process sub-agent scheduling. Built on a local SQLite database, each task claim is an atomic transaction; when multiple agents compete for the same task, only one succeeds. If an agent crashes or times out, the scheduler automatically detects process failure, reclaims the task, and reassigns it. After three consecutive failures, the task is automatically locked pending manual intervention, preventing board gridlock. The framework supports nine collaboration modes including fan-out parallelization, pipelining, voting arbitration, and human-in-the-loop review. A Web dashboard pushes real-time events via WebSocket, with all operations accessible via CLI and slash commands on Telegram and Discord.
