NPO Expected to Commercialize Earlier Than CPO in AI Optical Packaging, Nomura Experts Say

According to experts at a Nomura Securities AI conference held recently, near-package optics (NPO) is expected to commercialize ahead of co-package optics (CPO) as artificial intelligence drives demand for high-speed optical communications. Glass Bridge technology is also emerging as a key enabler for high-density optical interconnects. Experts noted that NPO offers advantages in power efficiency and bandwidth while maintaining pluggable electrical interfaces for system flexibility, whereas CPO requires more mature supply chain development before mass production.
