According to IrrationAlanalysis on July 12, Nvidia has decided to abandon Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company's (TSMC) COUPE (Compact Universal Photonic Engine) photonic platform due to slow progress in silicon nitride technology development and underperformance of 2D grating couplers.

Nvidia's new approach will shift to Tower Semiconductor's silicon photonics platform, adopting 16-wavelength DWDM and 200G/400G PAM4 modulation scheme, replacing its original plan based on TSMC's co-packaged optics platform.
