According to Yahoo Finance, personal computer shipments declined 4.9% year-over-year in the second quarter, marking the first downturn in two years as global memory shortages continue to impact the technology sector. Market research firm IDC warned that the memory supply crisis is expected to persist until early 2028, with PC manufacturers preparing for further price increases in 2027. IDC's Jitesh Ubrani stated that growth in PC market is likely to slow significantly in the second half of 2026. Major brands including HP, Dell, Microsoft, and Apple have already raised prices on Windows PCs and MacBooks in response to rising component costs.
