Peter Thiel-Backed Augustus Wins OCC Approval for AI and Stablecoin Bank

Payments startup Augustus has received conditional approval from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to establish a national bank focused on AI and stablecoin-based payments. The approval allows Augustus to expand from its existing European banking operations into the U.S. market. The proposed Augustus National Bank is designed as a clearing bank for the AI era, built to interact directly with machine agents rather than traditional batch-processing systems. Founded in 2022, Augustus is backed by Peter Thiel’s Valar Ventures and Creandum, and has raised approximately $40 million to date.
