According to BeInCrypto, on May 11, Keith Gill’s verified X account “Roaring Kitty” has 1.6 million followers, woke up after 16 months of silence, and posted a Solana Pump.fun contract address and a short video. Because the post style was vastly different from Gill’s usual market commentary, there were widespread suspicions that the account had been compromised.

Roaring Kitty’s X account returns: post details

According to reports, posts on the Roaring Kitty X account pointed to a Solana meme coin Red Kitten Crew (code name: RKC). Besides the contract address and short video, there was no other explanation. The account also claimed to hold both GameStop (GME) and RKC tokens; all posts were deleted shortly after being published.

Based on public information, Gill’s public persona mainly focuses on GameStop options trading, value investing, and occasional YouTube livestreams. He has never publicly promoted meme coins or used the Pump.fun platform; his last major public appearance was the $180 million GameStop position disclosed in June 2024.

Two “RKC” tokens rise in sync: name confusion triggers market reaction

According to Coingecko and Pump.fun market data, the post triggered a synchronized rise in two different tokens that both use the ticker RKC:

Solana Red Kitten Crew (RKC): The new token directly pointed to by this post. After listing on Pump.fun, it upgraded from the bonding curve to Raydium within minutes. Its market cap briefly reached $5.97 million, then fell back to about $4 million. 24-hour trading volume reached $2.55 million.

BNB Chain RockyCat (RKC): An independent community project with no relation to this post. Due to the same ticker and cat-themed concept, it was confused by the market, with a 24-hour price increase of 25%.

Based on public information, other than the ticker and cat theme, the two tokens have no connection whatsoever, with no shared team or technical links.

Account-hack suspicions and analysts’ views

According to reports, the GME community and on-chain analysts almost immediately pointed out that the post format (a Pump.fun address with no explanation) was completely different from Gill’s earlier style. The pattern resembled several recent incidents involving well-known accounts being hacked, including the account hacks of Michael Saylor’s MicroStrategy account and Kylian Mbappé’s X account. As of the time of the report, Gill had not responded to the matter via other channels.

Market researcher Jack Justicz said: “GME’s internet users think this person’s account was hacked. I don’t think so. I think it’s part of a plan. In my view, he started by posting a tweet that looks like it was hacked, with the purpose of thoroughly misleading everyone. That’s his usual tactic.”
