Rocket Lab CEO Echoes SpaceX Market View on $8B Iridium Deal, Says Satellite Telecom Market 'Starts With A T'

According to CNBC, on Wednesday, Rocket Lab CEO Peter Beck echoed SpaceX's assessment of the satellite communications market size, stating it "generally starts with a 'T'" (referring to trillion-dollar scale markets). Beck made the comments during an interview following Rocket Lab's announcement to acquire Iridium Communications in an $8 billion cash and stock deal.

Beck emphasized that acquiring Iridium's L-band spectrum is essential for developing space-based connectivity services, noting that "you can build all the satellites you want and have all the rockets in the hangar, but if you don't have the spectrum to actively use, it's all for nothing." The acquisition will combine Rocket Lab's launch and satellite manufacturing capabilities with Iridium's global satellite communications network, creating a vertically integrated space company capable of designing, building, launching and operating its own satellite constellations.
