Russia Central Bank Gains Regulatory Power Over Crypto AML Services on May 20

According to Bits.media, on May 20, Russia's central bank is set to be granted regulatory authority over anti-money laundering (AML) verification services for cryptocurrency transactions during the second reading of the government's crypto regulation bill. The Russian Ministry of Finance stated it plans to authorize the central bank to set requirements for AML service providers, enabling them to verify whether transactions comply with current Russian laws and regulations. AML services must also consider an "external perspective," analyzing how Russian crypto wallets perform in international services and the image Russia's financial system holds overseas, while maintaining confidentiality of Russia's financial infrastructure operations and internal processes.
