Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix Took 4.75 and 3 Years to Recover From 2021 Highs

Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix both saw their stocks recover from 2021 peaks after extended downturns. Samsung reached 90,600 Korean won on January 12, 2021, and did not surpass that level until October 16, 2025, a span of 4 years and 9 months. SK Hynix peaked at 146,500 won on March 2, 2021, and recovered above that price on February 15, 2024, after 3 years and 1 month.

On July 29, individual investors holding both stocks face significant losses. Retail investors who purchased SK Hynix since June 23 have accumulated losses of approximately $5.7 billion, with a loss rate of 31.6%, according to Citi Global Markets Securities. Both stocks fell sharply on the day, with Samsung declining 5.23% to 208,500 won and SK Hynix dropping 24% to 1,401,000 won.
