According to Science Corp., the company received approval to sell its PRIMA retinal implant system in the European Union, marking the first large-scale market launch of a brain-computer interface device by a U.S. BCI company. The photovoltaic retinal implant is designed to help patients with geographic atrophy (GA) restore partial vision. The system works with specialized glasses that project near-infrared light onto the implant, converting it into electrical stimulation signals. The technology includes a magnification function allowing patients to enlarge text. The implant is ultrathin and features wireless integration.
