Seoul Police Launches Investigation into Bithumb CEO Over Alleged Bribery on June 11

According to ChosunBiz, Seoul Metropolitan Police launched an investigation today (June 11) into Bithumb CEO Lee Jae-won on suspicion of bribery. Lee is alleged to have arranged employment at Bithumb for the son of a national assembly member, who worked at the exchange for six months starting in January 2025. Police are investigating whether the lawmaker requested the position during a 2024 year-end dinner with Lee and others.

The lawmaker is also suspected of raising retaliatory questions against rival exchange Upbit at the National Policy Committee, which oversees the Financial Services Commission, after his son's hiring at Bithumb.
