According to The Banker, a publication under the Financial Times Group, the world's top 10 banks by tier-one capital in 2026 rankings show seven banks headquartered in China. Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), China Construction Bank (CCB), Agricultural Bank of China (ABC), and Bank of China (BOC) retained their positions as the world's four largest banks. Postal Savings Bank of China entered the global top 10 for the first time. Only JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, and Citigroup represent non-Chinese banks in the top 10.
Postal Savings Bank of China's debut in the top 10 highlights the expanding scale of China's major banks and their growing influence in the global economy. Among Chinese banks' comprehensive performance rankings, China Merchants Bank ranked first, noted for its superior profitability and a return on assets exceeding 1 percent—the only bank among China's 40 largest to achieve this metric.
