South Africa's President Ramaphosa Denies Misconduct, Rejects Resignation Calls on May 11

According to Xinhua, South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa denied misconduct related to a $580,000 cash theft from his private farm in 2020 and rejected calls to resign during a national televised address on May 11. On the same day, the National Assembly initiated proceedings to establish an impeachment committee to reinvestigate allegations against Ramaphosa. The Constitutional Court ruled on May 8 that the Assembly’s previous decision to block further investigation into the theft was unconstitutional.
