South Carolina Signs Pro-Crypto Bill Blocking CBDCs, Protecting Bitcoin Mining

BTC1.42%

According to reports, South Carolina signed pro-crypto legislation this month that prohibits state participation in CBDCs while protecting residents' Bitcoin mining and self-custody rights. The law bars state agencies from supporting U.S. CBDC implementation and reinforces the legality of self-custody for digital assets.

The legislation prevents local governments from using zoning or discriminatory energy policies to restrict crypto mining operations. It also permits South Carolina residents to mine Bitcoin from their homes, provided they comply with existing residential energy and noise regulations.
