South Korea Assumes First Multinational Naval Command as RIMPAC Exercise Begins June 24

According to Yonhapnews, South Korea assumed command of a multinational naval task force for the first time as the RIMPAC military exercise began on June 24 in Hawaiian and Pacific waters. The U.S.-led exercise, the world's largest maritime training operation, will run through July 31 and involves approximately 30,000 multinational military personnel.

South Korea's participating forces include the Jeongjo the Great, an 8,200-ton Aegis destroyer, the Dosan Ahn Changho, a 3,000-ton submarine, and P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft. South Korea has participated in RIMPAC since 1990.
