South Korea's 3-Year Treasury Yield Hits 3.916%, Approaching 4% for First Time Since November 2023

According to Yonhapinfomax, on July 21, South Korea's 3-year government bond benchmark yield surged to 3.916% intraday, approaching 4% for the first time in approximately 2 years and 8 months. The last time the yield touched 4% was November 1, 2023, when it closed at 4.073%. Global investment banks including JP Morgan and Citi have forecasted that August rate hikes are likely, following the July 16 monetary policy committee meeting. This outlook has fueled market anxiety, with expectations for consecutive rate increases reinforced by the central bank's reference to a "rate-hike trajectory" in its policy statement.
